I'll be blogging regularly throughout the year to make sure you're up to date, informed, and equipped to have an awesome Courtauld experience.
Here's what we've got up our sleeves....
1. Chris Hutty is the Institute's Student Welfare Adviser. He is *amazing*, knows his stuff, and is seriously approachable. He's around to help you with ANY non-academic concern and is in the Student Services office on Mondays and Fridays. Drop him a line if you want to make an appointment: chris.hutty@courtauld.ac.uk .
2. Writing well is hard - don't let anyone tell you different. Need writing help? Virginia Rounding's your woman. She's the Institute's Royal Literary Fellow and is on-hand to give you advice about essays, research, and harnessing your art historical creativity on paper. Her office is at the very top of the stairs in the West Wing and she's always happy to hear from you. Her email address is: virginia.rounding@courtauld.ac.uk .
3. We have an Academic Support Officer who can advise on strategies for succeeding in your courses. She's full of resourceful suggestions for making the most of your time at the Courtauld and a visit with her might be what you need to boost your marks and your confidence. Her email address is: judy.corbalis@courtauld.ac.uk .
4. Cracking apart? Feeling low? Have trouble managing anxiety or coping with depression? The Courtauld also has its very own in-house Counsellor. Jackie Webber has years of experience in one-to-one psychotherapy and is an expert in helping students with their mental health needs. Confidentiality and anonymity is completely assured. Call her to book an appointment: 07804 630960.
AND FINALLY............
The UK's LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) month is celebrated and marked every single February.
LGBT people will have the opportunity to proudly showcase diverse and dynamic communities and to shed light on hidden histories. So often LGBT people have suffered discrimination and opposition and their histories have been rendered invisible. February 2009 is a chance to change that: to claim the past, celebrate the present, and create a positive future.
The Courtauld are kicking off LGBT month early with a film event at the ICA. More info here!
There will be a screening of The Celluloid Closet at 245pm on Sunday Jan 25th. Come to the film and join us for drinks in the ICA bar afterwards. Facebook event invitations coming soon! EVERYONE is welcome to this queer-friendly and queer-focused event!
